Campfire Hot Dog Grill Cheese Recipe

This is a campfire version of my dad's favorite. Hot dog on Italian bread and cheese.

Campfire Pie Iron (round or square)
Hot Dog Roasting Fork
Pam non-stick spray or butter
Hot Dog(s)
Favorite cheese

  1. Roast hot dog(s) on roasting fork when done cut hot dog length ways once and cut 2 to 3 pieces each.
  2. If you using Pam, spray inside the pie iron top and bottom. If your using butter put butter on bread side down on bottom half of pie iron.
  3. Lay the hot dog pieces on the bread.
  4. Add your Swiss cheese on top of the hot dog pieces.
  5. Add musterd
  6. Add a second piece of bread
  7. Close pie iron.
  8. Place the pie iron in the fire or on hot charcoals.
  9. Cook to your liking. Bread on outside of the pie iron will turn black.
  10. When done cooking take the knife and cut off the burned bread.
  11. Remove from pie iron.
  12. Enjoy!

I use a round pie iron and D'ANNUNZIO’S ITALIAN HOME LOAF bread. Since where we live so close to the road we are not aloud to have bonfires so my husband and I use a clay chimenea.
